Hat Size Chart - Measuring Children's Heads
Every head is different, and children’s heads grow quicker than the average adult's. You can determine the cap size based on the measured head size, or you can orient yourself by the average head size per age.
This guide tells you how to measure an infant's head size correctly.
Measuring Children's Head with Measuring Tape
To measure the head circumference (also called hat size), you need a measuring tape. The following steps outline how best to follow this method.
- Place the measuring tape horizontally around the child’s head.
- Rest the tape 1/2 an inch above the eyebrows and ears, just over the forehead (not at the top of the hairline!)
- The tape should be tight, but not cutting.
- At the overlap point of the measuring tape, you can read the head circumference directly.
No measuring tape at hand?
Use a cord or thread and follow the measuring tape method. Mark the intersection point, then measure the distance from start to mark with a ruler. This will determine the head circumference.

Tip: If the determined head circumference is between two sizes, e.g. 19.3 inches for Kids “Medium” (17.7 - 19.3 inches) and Kids “Large” (19.3 - 21.2 inches), we recommend choosing the larger size.
